Ever wonder why your cat scratches your beloved furniture? The short answer: it’s not personal, it’s purr-sonal! Cats simply love and need to scratch! It’s a primal instinct that serves three important purposes:
scratching helps cats to stretch their bodies and flex their feet.
Scratching helps cats remove the dead outer layer of their claws.
Cats scratch to mark their territory by leaving both a visual mark and their scent.
Frustrated with your cat for scratching your furniture? We have the solution: Sofisti-Cat® Anti-Scratch Tape is a double-sided tape specifically made to deter your kitty from scratching your furniture. You see, our furry friends hate extremely sticky surfaces. (I mean, who likes sticky surfaces anyway?!). Applying the tape on your furniture trains your cat Not to scratch these areas.
Over time, your cat will become Sofisti-Cat®-ed. In other words, they’ll learn not to scratch the treated areas. Eventually, you can remove the tape, and your kitty will still remember these ‘no-scratch’ zones. Your furniture stays protected, and your cat keeps their scratching habits where they belong. Win-win!
With tens of thousands of Sofisti-Cat® Anti-Scratch Tapes sold each year in the US alone and over 8,000 five-star reviews on Amazon, you know you’re in good hands. Cat owners are raving about it—so you can trust it’s the real deal.
Just peel and stick. It’s that simple! You’ll be amazed how quickly your cat will stop attempting to scratch the treated area.

Not all cats are as lucky as your kitty to have a loving home. Did you know that over half of the world’s cat population is feral or stray? Over 75% live in urban areas, exposed to the elements and dependent on kind people for food and water*. At Sofisti-Cat®, we donate monthly to local cat shelters, and as we grow, so do our contributions.

Using Sofisti-Cat® Anti-Scratch Tape is a breeze:
Not all upholsteries are created equal! While Sofisti-Cat® is designed to be safe for most fabrics (and our tests show it is safe for at least 95% of upholsteries), delicate materials like leathers and velvets might not react well. So, test the tape on a hidden spot first. Wait 48 hours, then peel it off. If everything looks good, you’re all set!
Stick the tape on your cat’s favorite scratching zones. Peel off the backing to reveal the sticky side – it’s that simple, and your cat will want to avoid that area in no time! For instructions on how to use Sofisti-Cat® Tape Sheets on countertops and tables see the Q&A section.
Place your kitty’s favorite scratching post or mat nearby. Make it the new “cool” place to scratch! Praise Your Cat and shower them with love for using the scratching post or mat. They know they’re purrfect, but they love hearing it from you!
After a few weeks of successful training, you can remove the tape. Your furniture stays safe, and your cat is Sofisti-Cat®-ed.
Cats can be stubborn little critters. If your kitty reverts to old habits, don’t fret. Just reapply Sofisti-Cat® Anti-Scratch Tape and give them a bit more training. You will win this battle!
My cat has been scratching our window valances (they’re solid camper ones overlaid with fabric), and this was an inconspicuous solution to the problem. We followed the instructions, making sure to put up a new scratching post to distract him with, and to praise him when he uses it.
These very, very sticky clear sheets work just as touted. My cat no longer bothers my couch. And, they are virtually invisible. I never notice them. Nor, does anyone else. They not only work but, are also unobtrusive.
I placed these on the corners of my furniture, where my cats love to scratch, especially during the winter months. They adhered well to the furniture and my cats left it alone. Should you have Furniture that was already scratched up by Cats, I recommend the furniture covers they have on Amazon. I am completely satisfied with those!
Sofisti-Cat does everything it says it will do on its label. First, it definitely prevents cat scratching once you stick it. Second, it looks very clear and is almost unnoticeable. Third, it comes off clean when you peel it off your furniture, when your kitty is trained.
I had adopted a 3 year old rescue and she wasn’t declawed. We wanted to let her claws be but were at our wits end with all the furniture scratching. We tried Sofisti-Cat tape and our cat just hated the touch of the sticky surface. We have removed all tapes since but our cat still doesn’t go anywhere near our furniture to scratch.
This is a great product to have on hand when you have cats that don’t respect your stuff. Cats hate the feel of the stickiness on their paws and stay clear of the tape. This also works well to prevent a couch cover from slipping. This holds it in place. This product is well worth the cost.

Begin training your cat not to scratch furniture when they’re young, or as soon as you catch them eyeing your new sofa. But don’t worry if your cat is older or has a long criminal record of furniture destruction! Even the most notorious offenders can’t stand the sticky feel of Sofisti-Cat® Tape. Just be prepared to apply and reapply the tape for a little longer, eventually, you will win this battle!
Some cats are all about sisal, while others go wild for cardboard. Some love horizontal scratching mats, while others are all about vertical posts. Make sure your kitty has plenty of options so they can’t say, “But I had no place else to scratch!”
Always reward your cat for scratching the right spots. We all love a pat (or a pet 😉) on the back for a job well done, right?
Some cats are well, weird… About one in 100,000 of our customers (yes, we’re that popular) tells us their cat tried to chew or lick the tape off. In that case, lemon is your secret weapon! Tap a lemon slice on the outer side of the tape (the side facing your cat). The stickiness + citrus scent combo will boost your odds of winning.
If you worry that your furniture is delicate but the test showed Sofisti-Cat® Tape is safe, we recommend you do not leave the tape on too long. Remove and reapply fresh tape after a few days or a week to keep things smooth.

The short answer: give it a test! While we’ve tested Sofisti-Cat® Anti-Scratch Tape on many types of upholstery and found it safe for at least 95%, we still recommend trying it on a hidden spot first. Some materials, like delicate leathers or velvet, may be a bit too sensitive. Apply the tape in a discreet area, leave it for 48 hours, then peel it off. If everything looks good, you’re in the clear! Pro tip: Don’t leave the tape on for too long. Some people leave it for months, but we suggest removing and reapplying it after a week or two.
Yes, you can! Our Sofisti-Cat® Anti-Scratch Tape Sheets work wonders here. [As always, be sure to test the tape in a hidden spot first.] Here are two methods to keep countertops (and your sanity) intact:
